Afraid

It’s in my blood

Or maybe something thinner

Like a layer of skin.

Am I a renegade?

I’m trying so hard not to run this time

But I see the way they look at him

In the way I should be.

At least his returned glances

Are blind

In my glow.

Each one of them could be

A spark

A potential blazing fire

Brighter than my hope.

I do have hope

Despite the odds

Odds mean zero these days

If you know how to play with the evens.

Still, I can’t explain why

But I hate

The way

They

LOOK.
