Summer Alone

Last embrace

Without that familiar feeling-

The promise of tomorrow

A lingering touch of sorrow

Twinged with the bitter-sweet taste

Of freedom.

I lay back

Succulent summer breeze

Caresses me through opened windows

I am not afraid

For to be devoted

Is to trust

Though I cannot count the miles

From where I want to be.

I bet your eyes are bright

And that you’re laughing

I always loved that about you…

It’s been getting harder

Missing you

The quenching feel

Of your touch and kiss

But I still don’t love you any less

Because I believed the words you said

When you left:

“I’ll be waiting for you.”
